About Us

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to preserve and protect the historic architecture and livability of Burlington through education and advocacy.

The bulk of Preservation Burlington’s work is done in committee, and we’re always looking for new energy. Take a look through the following committee descriptions, and drop us a note if you’d like to attend a meeting to get a feel for it.

Committees

  • Works to monitor and protect Burlington’s neighborhoods, historic homes, and quality of life. The committee meets ad hoc to discuss current events. When issues arise the committee researches problems and solutions and produces recommendations that can then be presented to the community. Preservation Burlington is often looked to for expertise when there is a perceived threat and our Advocacy Committee is the source of that expertise.

  • The voice of our organization. Works on publicity, announcements, and our newsletter, takes care of our website and social media, and more. Like history and writing? This one’s for you! Have experience with event publicity? We’d love to have you on board!

  • Makes sure we have enough money to implement our wishlist of ideas, from workshops, to educational programs and advocacy efforts. Also takes care of all our amazing donors, maintains our donation lists, and does what’s needed to keep our organization moving forward.

  • Plans all our fabulous walking tours, our Dear Diary event, and so much more. This awesome group also created our Architectural Toolkit for elementary educators.

  • Responsible for organizing our biggest annual fundraiser, typically held on the first or second Saturday in June each year. We scout out potential homes, research their histories, compile a tour booklet, solicit ads for the program, and promote the tour in the local media.

Tour proceeds go towards our many other educational programs. Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available at the Flynn Center Box Office in May of each year (www.flynntix.org). Tickets are not available for purchase at any of the homes.

  • On the fourth Thursday of every month, catch us on CCTV Channel 17’s Live at 5:25. Hosts Ron Wanamaker and Liisa Reimann welcome a variety of guests to share their insights into local history.

  • Each year, Preservation Burlington recognizes historic buildings that represent outstanding efforts in preservation, restoration, rehabilitation or reconstruction. In doing so, this program seeks to promote continued efforts in heritage preservation as well as highlight its benefits.
