10am - 3pm, 16 Kilburn Street, Burlington
Historic windows are often the first elements of an older home to be replaced. Historic wood windows are threatened because of a dwindling number of craftspeople able to restore them properly combined with an ever-increasing push for newer and more "efficient" synthetic windows. This workshop will provide participants with some essential training in restoration and repair of historic wood windows. Attendees will also gain information on how to deal with lead paint hazards and making historic windows more energy-efficient.
Instructors: Ron Wanamaker and Amy Mentes of Wanamaker Restoration
Ron began his career working as a color matcher for a hand screen wall covering company in New York City. Over the
next decade he gained experience as a stone mason, theatrical prop designer, and owner of a decorative paint
company. In 1998 he moved to Vermont to pursue his career in the preservation field by founding Wanamaker
Restoration.
Amy spent most of her professional career in the social services. Amy has been with Wanamaker
Restoration for 7 years and has focused her energies on running the historic window restoration shop, turning out
dozens of original windows ready for another 100 years of functional service.
